I spent $7000 etching Runes and $5000 minting them so you don't have to
I spent $7,000 #etching #runes on Day 0, and $5,000 #minting, so you don’t have to.
🧵 Here’s what I learned from my costly mistake(s)👇
-
Don’t #FOMO and all-in on the first day. Crazy high fees = crazy low returns. There are plenty of opportunities to #mint once fees go down. Save some of your sats for the next day.
-
Don’t overdiversify, be selective. It’s better to repeat mint good tickers you believe in, instead of the shotgun-approach of buying everything you see.
2.1. Sure, if you buy 1x 40 Runes instead of 20x 2 Runes, you’ll capture the good ones - but you’ll own so little that you won’t make much.
2.2. #Memeability is important. The ticker should be catchy and roll off the tongue nicely. If you like the name, it’s highly likely other people will too. The opposite holds true.
-
Target low rune numbers #, or #Runes with actually good tickers. The first 10, 100, 1000 Runes are less likely to fade as the hype dies down.
-
STFU and pay up for 100% #preminted Runes. Yes, it sucks that they aren’t open mints and that you have to pay someone. In hindsight, we can see how #DOGGOTOTHEMOON blew up.
-
Don’t bother burning sats to etch runes UNLESS you have enough that they’ll make it to the first 10, 100, 1000 Runes OR you have great marketing / connections.
5.1. I spent a small fortune etching these tickers on Day 0 (they were paid for before the halving), yet I couldn’t compete with the big boys. In my biased opinion, they are catchy & memeworthy. But alas, they faded.
5.2. My $7,000 mistake:
- #133 YOU•MAY•ETCH•MY•ASS - 1 sad holder
- #134 SPACES•ARE•COOL - 1 miserable holder
- #692 SHITCOIN•MILLIONAIRE - 150 holders (still hopeful on this one)
- #693 JEROME•PUMPWELL - 15 depressing holders
- #798 FOUR•YEAR•CYCLE - 0 holders
5.3. More mistakes:
- #6774 CASEY•RUGARMOR - 0 holders
- #6776 YOUR•MOM•IS•A•RUNE - 0 holders
- #6836 RETIREMENT•PLAN - 0 holders
See you in 4 months, when 12 character Runes unlock. Don’t make the same mistakes I did.
